We were given incorrect directions by the venue on where to park.  So we were all the way on the other side of the Casino and had to walk a long way to get to the arena. And through smoke-filled rooms.  UGH!   Then we had to go back outside and walk around the hotel before we could even pick up our tickets.  Needless to say we were quite upset when we finally got our tickets at almost 8:30 to find out there was no opening act and we had driven 2 1/2 hours to miss the first half hour of Alan's show.  Sad   We also tried all day to get through on the phone to verify that there was an opening act and the venue's phone line said their mailbox was full.

Still nice to see Alan, but would've liked to have seen the whole show!

Anyone who went to the concert know what he sang before Small Town Southern Man?

If you have an IPOD loaded up with Alan songs (like we do), you can get a little cassette attachment device that loads into the cassette player in your car and then hooks right up to the IPOD.  You can then play all your Alan songs over your radio from your IPOD.  It's like having a radio station playing non-stop Alan the whole time you are in your car.

We just drove home from the show in Bethlehem (2+ hr ride) and played Alan all the way home that way.
(You can usually find the cassette attachments at Walmart for about $10).

I really only got pictures of the mass crowd during Mercury Blues because the camera wasn't focusing very well from where we were at.  I'll try to post them on my website and then I guess put the links to them here tomorrow.  I might have a good one of Alan performing, I'll have to check.

I thought the concert was one of his best! He really seemed to be enjoying himself up there.  It's been awhile since he's played in Delaware.  One of the first concerts I saw him perform at was at this venue when Matt was a baby  (he's almost 21 now).  So many since then  (over 300 now?), but still this one ranked way up there on the list of memorable shows.

What is the policy for posting pictures here?

I have never seen anything like it!   We were all stuck behind this big metal fence like caged animals.  Alan kept telling everyone to come up to the stage, but we couldn't get past this huge fence.  He was sooo far away, he could barely flick the picks into the first row!

On the other side of the fence separating the fans from the stage also were 2 big concrete platforms (levels) that would get you closer and higher up towards the stage if you could ever get past the darn gate.

Alan kept motioning and asking people to come up, but there was no way past these gates.   We tried to get security to let us up, but it wasn't happening.   When Alan came out for his encore of Mercury Blues....STILL no fans at the stage for him to sign autographs.   He was a real trooper...waving and apologizing for not being able to sign for his fans.  Finally just as he was ending Mercury Blues and saying his goodbyes...someone got through. I am not sure what happened after that but it was like a flood of humanity rushing the stage.

Instead of leaving as he was about to do, Alan turned around to this mob of fans, and starting signing everything that was put anywhere near him.  People had climbed up both concrete platforms to get their items signed.  I have never seen so many fans that close to the stage at one time.  It was just incredible.    Alan signed and signed, and the Strayhorns played and played....seemed like forever.

Then Alan said, I'm gonna sing this again, and re-sang the last chorus of Mercury Blues before he left.

Paul got to the stage... I went back to my seat and snagged a few pictures of this incredible event.
ARE WE ALLOWED TO POST PICTURES HERE???
I'd love to share them.

Leaving within the hour to head down to A.C. to see Alan.   Nothing in my mailbox about a M&G.   Hope someone was lucky enough to get one.

Wow,  I have missed a lot of news not being on here much.   Concert dates posted for Sweden and Norway this summer .........  Lot's of international traveling for Alan this year!!!!!!

We have been hosting 2 Chinese Foreign Exchange Students this month and have been playing Alan Jackson music for them in the kitchen when we are cooking and in the car when we are traveling......wonder if China is a consideration for a future show.

Hi Nelle,

I did get a confirmation that my ticket order was processed.  I also know what row I am in because it told me when I ordered them, but I don't know the seats.  We won't find out until we get there.

Maybe your email is going to spam by mistake?  The fan club usually responds pretty quickly to emails, so make sure you aren't missing that response somewhere.

Hope to see you at the show,
Hope
27  General Category / Live Show and Tour Discussion / "Good Time" Memories of Alan at the Delaware State Fair on: February 25, 2011, 12:26:56 am
YAY!!!!   I haven't seen Alan at this venue in a long time.
Here are some long ago memories of Alan at the Delaware State Fair:

Once a long long time ago he performed two shows there in one night.
Once LeeAnn Rimes opened for him and she was still very young.
I am pretty sure thats the one and only place I ever heard him sing one of my favorite songs  If I Had You!
Once one of my boys was sooo little that he fell asleep in my arms at that venue...  (they are both in college now)
Most concerts he closed with an encore of Mercury Blues, but I remember him ending the show there once with
Chattahoochee and another time with  Who's Cheatin Who.
Once, before there were fan club seats, we were sitting so far away he looked like a little stick figure.
                     BOY are we spoiled now.....
Hope to see some of you there!

Definitely looking forward to the show!   We have to see if there is anyway to go down to Virginia and bring Matt back for it.  Only issue is for him its the week before finals, and he probably has a performance or two of his own that weekend.
So we may have to go without him.

Anyone else out there going?

Jerrie,

So sorry for the loss of you Mom last year. I will say a little prayer tonight.   Paul lost his mom in the spring of 2009.  Later that year, after some very emotional times, we also went to see Alan in  concert a few hours from here.  It was a great show and very soothing for the soul.   His music has been a part of our lives since my oldest son Chris was born in 1989, and we also had taken Paul's mom to a few shows in the past.

We got to catch up with other long-time fans there and met some new ones too.  Alan Jackson fans are the best!

And as you can see from my little picture by my name, I also was able to finally meet Alan (again.... The first time was at fanfair in 1992 with Chris who was then 3 and Matt was a baby and I was a frazzled mom of two little boys).  It was a pleasure and honor for my family to meet him that night and we will always remember it.

We have even seen him in concert a time or two in Florida as my brother lives there, so maybe someday we can attend a show together.

Take care now,
Hope
