I'm glad you brought up this question, January. I'm also not liking this new forum too much, if at all. I do miss very much too a lot of former posters here, of whom some has been mentioned. . .and I'd ike to include our Aussie friends, Dee and Jenny to that list. From one of the last messages that Dee posted here she made mention of being tempted or thinking of not posting here anymore in protest for those wonderful AJ fans who no longer can post here and I can't blame her for that. Right at the early start of this forum I had posted a message here for Cindy expressing my disappointment and concern about this new board with regards to those AJ fans who were regular posters on the previous board but could no longer post because of the change used with this new format and how it will and could make them feel like they're being forced to become members of the AJFC just so they'll be able to post on this board and as well as how this change of the board's format is a slap on their faces after them becoming such great fans of Alan and had supported him in their own way (buying his albums/records, etc.). Kind of like this is the thanks they got. And this is not actually a good follow up to Alan's very successful concerts at his Scandinavian Tour. Who knows how many of his fans that were in his concerts there are not members of the AJFC and therefore could not post here. I'm sure there has been a lot of them who must have wanted to share their experiences at the concert, like Pontus and his wife did, but couldn't maybe because they could not afford to pay for the membership to the AJFC or didn't want to be part of a fan club, which they have all the rights to choose if they so desire. I also stated that I do understand that one main reason for this change is to try to stop the spammers from invading the board again. And as I've said there too, there's got to be another way of doing it. I've been waiting for some changes to happen to make it possible again for non-members of AJFC who shares our love of Alan and his music to be able to post on the board again, but I'm not going to hold my breath, though. Sorry for being blunt, but that's my opinion of this whole issue. And truth to be told, I don't feel very comfortable at all posting here.
Thanks for starting this topic, January, because I think there's a need for all of us to discuss this. Obviously, all of us here shares the same sentiment and observation regarding this new board's format. . . .the board not being as active as the previous one, the void created by the non-members but great fans of Alan not being able to post messages here and how truly missed they are by us all and most importantly, the lack of the privacy that the PL section has afforded and served us. Things that we could do here and not on the previous board are nice pluses. But. . . . .

Just a quick note here. It has been a whirlwind weekend with us attending ballgame gathering and doing and running errands. Unpacking continues. We just got back a littler over an hour ago from our weekend grocery shopping and I'm beat. Doing too many things and, of course, it's also way past my bedtime. Won't be able to answer all your posts right now but just thought I'll stop by and say HELLO! to you all.
Harriet, sorry to hear about your tendinitis. That's is painful. Good to hear your pneumonia is clearing up. Hope you do get well and really feel better soon. As Jeri said, you've been sick for much too long. Continued prayers for you. BTW, thanks for the phone call. I enjoyed our chat. You will be getting an email from me sometime tomorrow in regards to the change of my cphone number and our new home phone number as well (you too, Terry).
Better head for bed. My eyes are so heavy I can barely read what I'm typing here. Take care everyone. HUGS!

Hello & Good Morning Friends!
Thought I'll start this month's thread and what a better way to start it by telling you all now the story behind our relocation adventure. Bear with me here and PLEASE pardon me for any typos I might make. First off, however, I would like wish everyone of you well. HARRIET, I hope and pray that you're feeling better. SUE, sorry to hear about the stressful situation you went through regarding your school. TERRY, JERI and ALL OF YOU going to Alan's concert this weekend, safe travels, enjoy and have lots of fun. . . .will be looking forward for your reviews. Prayers for everyone who needs one, including the victims of the big earthquake and tsunami in Samoa and Pago Pago.
Now, to my story. Let me begin with 2 days before we left our previous home, Tuesday the 22nd of Sept. I was supposed to have my post-op appt. with my doctor that morning but because we stayed up so late the night before finishing up with our packing we got up a little late and therefore I was late arriving at the doctor's office. My appt. was then rescheduled for the following Thursday, at 3 in the afternoon, the day we actually made our travel here in Newnan. The following day, Wednesday, was when the movers hubby hired was suppose to come to help us load up the moving truck hubby has rented (he drove it himself with all of us barely fitting on the driver/passenger bench seat; it was also a little high for me being I'm a short person so my feet were actually hanging. . .LOL!) but they were late in arriving apparently having had a flat tire. Then while our stuffs were being loaded in the truck, a police activity went on at the apt. unit right above ours with lots of stomping/pounding noise. Cap that with a severe thunderstorm that came shortly after the movers were done loading up the truck and went on all night. We were glad then that it was not until the next day that we were going to make our trek.
Thursday, we had a big chore of cleaning up all the mess left at the apartment and setting aside what will be loaded up in our car upon our return later. We did as much as we could do until it's time for me to see my doctor for my post-op check up. On the way back home hubby decided that he'd rather get some rest and sleep and start our trek at midnight. Good thing too as when we did another round of checking all the cabinets and closets we discovered that we had not emptied our linen/towel closets, as well as the food cabinets and utensils drawers in the kitchen. Oh, Geeeeez! So Son and I stayed up all night putting together boxes, emptying and packing all the stuffs that were left behind. When hubby woke up at 11pm everything were ready to go and he loaded them up in the truck by himself. There was another closet we forgot to check but will explain that one later. So we're all set to go, locked up the apartment, hopped in the truck and by 15 after midnight we were on the road. It was a nice drive/ride, hardly any traffic at all and no rain, that is, until we hit Montgomery, AL. That's where we made our first stop for a very early breakfast at a Waffle House restaurant and to refuel from a nearby gas station. I slept most of the way but our son didn't sleep a wink. . .the music from the radio (country music, of course) kept him awake.
We arrived here in Newnan at 7:35am and decided to stop by Wal-Mart (we finally found it! LOL!) for some food necessity then drove on to our new home. We don't have our keys to the apartment yet so we stopped by the office, but it was still close. So we waited. . .an hour and a half. . .until the manager showed up. The movers hubby hired to help us unload the truck here was also a little late because they got lost somehow. After everything were unloaded son and I took a longish nap while hubby returned the truck. We ordered pizza for dinner that night and went to bed early. . .too tired.
Saturday morning after breakfast hubby took a cab to the airport to pick our rental car at the car rental place there. We drove back to our previous home in MS late that morning to finish up with the cleaning the place and load up our car that we left there then drive back here one last time. . . .or so we thought. Remember when I had shared here my concern about not having enough room in our car for everything we had intended to load up in it? Well, I was right. Oh, Geeeeeez!. . .again. We ended up renting a storage unit and left the least important items we'll need there. So, we got done with the cleaning, loading up the car and now were ready to lock up the place, turn in the keys to the office and go. But wait! Son suddenly asked, "How about this closet?" He was pointing at our coat closet by the entrance door. Oh, Great!!!!! So, we picked one coat/jacket for each of us and I also grab my sweater that was hanging in there and put the rest of them in a large garbage bag. Hubby loaded it up on the front seat of the car and took it to the storage and then picked son and I up, locked up the place, turned in the keys and head for the road. Hubby said if this was not so comical it wouldn't be funny. :-)
We're settling nicely here in Newnan continuing with our unpacking that hopefully will all get done soon. Hubby didn't take the week off as I thought he told me he did. His first 4 days of work is at the main VA Hospital at Decatur. I think he said it's west of Atlanta. Not sure. He's off tomorrow and will start working at the VA Clinic here in Newnan next week. Meanwhile, we'll be making another trek to MS to get some of our stuffs from the storage that we'll need sometime soon, and, most especially my prescription for my BP that we forgot to pick up from the pharmacy at the Air Force Base there before we left, tomorrow. We'll be back Saturday so hubby will get some rest before he report to work on Monday.
BTW, there were all sorts of damages to all our furniture, most especially our bed. The movers that packed our things in the truck had not been very careful and refused to cover the furnitures and didn't take their time loading up the truck. They won't get our business again in the future. The movers that unloaded the truck here has not been all that careful either. . .especially with the boxes that has our breakable wares. All the boxes with breakable wares were all labeled with FRAGILE and the movers still put heavy boxes and stuff on top of them. I was so upset. Fortunately, we have not found anything broken. . .yet. I must have really packed them well enough to prevent the breakage. . .hopefully.
Well, now you all heard it all. Gotta stop here for now and get back to more unpacking chores here. Oh, boy. . .I've got to fix our lunch too! Didn't notice it's that late. I'm still somewhat adjusting to the time here. . .or maybe the change of season has something to do with it too. Thank you all again for all your prayers for me and my son. I will send him all your messages here for him. Take care everyone, safe travels and HUGS!

Harriet, sorry to hear you're not well again. Praying for you here. The phone call can wait. You take care of yourself first. That is more important.
Thank you all for your concerns about my health. I'm recovering nicely but did get some lecturing from my doctor for overdoing things a bit with our move. Apparently, the backache I had during the week of our move was not only due to the stress from the move we made. He told me that because my body is not completely recovered yet from the surgery I had and therefore still a little weak, I overly compensated via my back to be able to do everything that I've done in this move, if that makes any sense to you all. The result of which is the severe backache I had and weak and tired body too. I'm finally making good recovery from all these moving chores and doing as little as possible unpacking one day at a time. Meanwhile, the pathology test result of my ovarian cyst is normal. . .thank Heavens! Thank you all for your prayers.
And speaking of thank yous for prayers, let me make mention here quickly a message my son in Kuwait would like me to extend to you all. He's thanking all of you once again for all your prayers for his safety while he's in Kuwait and for his safe return back here in the US. He's been safe there and he's coming back here safe as well. He has recently learned that he is one of at least 80 personnel currently deployed in Kuwait whose deployment time there has been cut back. They will start returning back here to the US as early as this weekend and my son will be one of those to come back home first. So, on behalf of my son, thank you all so much again for all your prayers for him with much appreciation.
To all of you going to see Alan in concert this weekend. . . .ENJOY AND HAVE LOADS OF FUN!!!!!!!!! I'M ENVIOUS!!!!!!!
Take care all. HUGS!

Thank you all for your prayers for my family in the Philippines. I have just received another update from my brother and he said that my nephews had gone back to their home. . .or whatever's left of it. The news is not good. Their house is knee deep in mud and they've lost everything. I'm close to tears right now having hard time imagining what they're going through and wondering how they can get their lives back to normal with very little to lack of finances. I feel so bad for them.
Elaine, you're partly right about the lack of home insurances there in the Philippines. They actually have it there but only affordable to the well to do and richy people, sad to say. So that doesn't help the flooding victims there at all, or victims of any catastrophic events such as this one. Something might change in this regard after this flooding chaos but it would already be too late for it to do any good for the victims such as my nephews and their families.
Harriet, I'll be looking forward for your call.
Thank you all gain for your prayers and caring. It was and is much appreciated. Take care all. HUGS.

Hello Friends,
We survived our move and just got back home about half an hour or so ago from our last trip to MS for a little while. Will explain everything later. Harriet, thanks for updating everyone here for me. There are lots to tell about our move but for now I need all your prayers again. . .for my nephews and their families in the Philippines. I'm sure you all have heard and seen on tv news broadcast about the major typhoon that passed through the Metro Manila areas, among other places, in the Philippines that caused heavy flooding. One of the areas affected, the city of Marikina (the i's are pronounced like long e and the a's as short a), is where my nephews and their families lives at. I received an update from my brother in CA saying that the water rose to the second floor of their home (they all live together in one home) so they evacuated to one of their neighbors' home that was on a higher ground but then that home got flooded too and to near the roof. They all stayed in the small space between the ceiling and the roof of the home (not an attic) until the water receded. My two nephews, meanwhile, decided to go to the roof, short while later while they were all still in that small space, to get help. They stayed there overnight and managed somehow to get themselves some help and was able to go to my sister's hotel in Manila where they're safe now. However, one of the back wall of their home had collapsed and they're not 100% sure how safe their home is to live in right now. They're not currently financially able to find themselves another place to live in. Please remember them in your prayers. Thank you all very much with my hearfelt appreciation.
Take care. HUGS. BHR

Harriet, thank heavens you're all OK. Prayers are being sent your way. Thanks for posting your report on your weather/flooding situation there. I appreciate this very much. I was just going to email you to ask you about this as we just now heard about it from the web. We already have all our electronic gadgets unplugged and disconnected and boxed. . .except for the tv. . .we're returning our cable boxes tomorrow. . .so we can't watch anything on tv right now. We have just changed our plans late this afternoon about driving back to Newnan on Wednesday deciding to do it Thursday instead. I guess it's a good thing we did. Maybe the weather and the roads there will be better by then. Also, we got a call from hubby's Mom & Dad this afternoon and they might give us a visit sometime next week. They might want to make sure the roads are clear before they do as they will be driving by some of those areas affected by the flooding. Thanks, again for the report, Harriet. I will get in touch with you as soon as I can.
On a side note: I will try to at least read posts here at least once a day, if I can, from tomorrow till this weekend. I may not be able to post again on any regularity until we get completely moved to Newnan and got some unpacking done. Hopefully, by the time we get moved there this rain and flooding situation is all but over.
Take care all and HUGS!

Hello Friends!
Just updating you all on how things are going with our move. We've done a lot of packing since Friday and right now our living room/dining room are littered with boxes ready to go into the moving truck. We'll finish up packing tomorrow. . .only a few more is left, then we'll let the movers hubby hired take care of the big furnitures and appliances and boxing up our 42" LCD/HD flat screen tv. I don't know about my hubby, but looking at all the these boxes here. . .plus more tomorrow, I don't know if all of our stuffs will fit in that truck. I sure hope so. I would hate for us to make 2 trips getting all our stuffs in our new place in Newnan (hubby's driving the truck). Anyway, early Tuesday morning I'll have my post-op appointment with my doc. . .I'll let you all know the result of that. . .and then hubby will pick up the moving truck. The movers will be here on the early part of the afternoon and load everything up in the truck. . .like I've said, hopefully it will be everything. Then Wednesday morning we'll head back to Newnan and the movers that hubby hired from there we'll help us unload the truck. Thursday or Friday we'll head back here for a final cleaning of our current apartment and turn the key back in to the manager. We'll stay that evening at a hotel/motel and the next day head on back again to Newnan. Hubby, however said, our son and I doesn't have to come back here with him for the apartment clean up. . .he'll just do it by himself as he would rather I take a long rest and then we'll do the unpacking when gets back (how sweet). I can't argue with that now, can I? Either way, it's going to be a long and very busy week ahead of us.
Hubby had his last day at his workplace here last Friday and he doesn't report to his new job now until 2 weeks from tomorrow, Monday. So, after our move to Newnan he'll have at least one week of rest before he start working again. I'll likely do most of the unpacking like I did when we moved here from WA.
Harriet, sorry I wasn't able to call you when we were in Newnan last weekend. We got so busy looking for an apartment and I was really tired with aching back I just couldn't get myself to do anything but lay in bed and either take a nap or watch tv once we were back in our hotel room. Maybe once we get settled there I'll be feeling a whole lot better and have more time to have a phone chat with you. Can't wait for us to get together ( and Melanie too!).
Gotta go to bed and get a good night rest. Take care all. HUGS.

Good Morning, Everyone!
I'm taking a short pause here before my son and I start tackling some packing chores and before I get too busy to come and post here about our trip to GA. I would be lying if I say that the trip had not been too bad for me because in a way it was. The search for our new home was fine but the drive to and from GA has been a bit too much for me. But other than that, I was fine. We decided to rent an apartment while trying once again to sell our condominium unit in WA for however much we can get for it to get out from under the monthly mortgage payments and property taxes we're currently paying. We agreed to wait for a year or 2 or so before we start looking to buy a house. Now to our adventure.
First off, we didn't leave until Sunday due to the stormy weather we had Saturday. Hubby didn't want to deal with it and much rather wait until the next day when the weather forecast said it would be sunny and it was. Newnan, indeed, is a small town with a number of new business here and there. We kind of got lost looking for the hotel hubby made a reservation to before we left. We found out that using a GPS device to help you find some places there can be problematic. Hubby made a hotel reservation to one named Jameson Inn and according to the address given at their online site it is located at #40 Lakeside Way. Hubby's GPS device directed hm to Lakeside Drive as it did not have Lakeside Way on it. So, he drove on going up the hilly road of Lakeside Drive which turned out to be a residential area and not a single business structure is in sight. Thinking that we may have just driven by it, hubby made another round and it took us right back where we started. :-) He finally asked me to call up the hotel for direction. The first thing the night clerk asked me was if we're using a GPS device. Apparently, we weren't their only patrons that got sorta lost. She then directed us to go to Bullsboro Drive and there we found it. On one side of the hotel is Lakeside Way, as shown on their road map and Google map too, and the other side, is Bullsboro Drive. But we, however, didn't have problems locating the apartment complexes we looked at as their names are prominently displayed by their entrances and therefore can be easily seen from the road.
As I previously said, I had a bit of a problem going to and from GA. My lower back, where I had a surgery 5 years ago, just about killed me. So we decided to go to Newnan's Walmart store and buy me some ibuprofen and a small step stool to help make it easier for me to get in and out of our SUV. We found the address online but couldn't find the location when we drove there. So we decided to go to the one located in Peachtree City. Can't find that one either. . .LOL! We saw a Books A Million bookstore so we decided to stop by there, buy a few books and then ask the cashier for direction. When we finally got to the place we found out why we couldn't find it in the first place. We were looking for the usual big tall sign that Walmart stores have near the road. Instead, their store sign was curved on the cement wall at the shopping plaza/mini mall (?!?!?. . .I'm definitely a big city girl. . .LOL!) entrance and the lettering are small enough that you'll miss it if you're not looking in that direction. Plus, the entrance is not located by the main road either. I can see now that we'll be doing quite a lot of driving around to familiarize ourselves on the locations of business places there.
Speaking of Peachtree City, we looked at an apartment complex there too. We like the area but, among other things, the rent is a bit pricey. Hubby loved the idea of riding golfcart on the golfcart trails, though. But one thing he admitted that it will take getting use to for him to remember is to be watchful of the golfcart trails road signs. He keeps hitting the breaks the last minute because he wasnt paying close attention to those signs. :-)
We settled for the apartment in Newnan, which is about 20 to 30 minutes drive to hubby's main workplace at Newnan's VA Clinic. He will be commuting to the VA Clinic in Smyrna, a bit farther away, when and as he's needed there. We both can't wait for this move to get done and over with and hubby is getting a bit anxious to start his new job as an administrative manager. This is what he was trained for here in Biloxi and will be quite of a challenge for him.
Got to get back to the chores here. If any of you would like to know our new address, please PM/email me (sorry, but I will answer only those I know or am familiar with). Thanks. Take care everyone. I'll try to be back here whenever I can until we get done moving. HUGS!

Just a brief note here, friends, to say hello and let you all know that we're back home safe and sound. I will be back here a little later to share with you all our adventure. . . .Boy, what an adventure it was! Yes, we did find a place for us to live there and not too far from hubby's main workplace in Newnan. Stay tuned, my friends.
