I don't recall "Don't Close Your Eyes" being on the Under The Influence album nor did he record it with Keith Whitley. Alan did record it for the Keith Whitley tribute album, Keith Whitley. . .A Tribute Album, in 1994, however. The duet he did with Keith that I know of, posthumously, is the Christmas song, "There's A New Kid In Town," on his Honky Tonk Christmas album. They used the digitalized recording technology to blend in Keith original recording of that song with Alan's own recording of his part to that song.

875  General Category / Alan Music Discussion / Re: NEW OPRY POLL GLITCH ALERT on: January 10, 2010, 10:05:15 pm
I'm so glad you notice this!  I  called the Opry a few days ago when I noticed that my votes were going toward Womack's song and although it appeared to be corrected, it still didn't look right.  I thought nobody cared since it might be considered just an insignificant little poll.

However, it really concerns me that a poll, however insignificant, could be so carelessly constructed.  Who knows how the results might later be used.

Thanks you all for your kind understanding. This really just upset me a bit. Will explain. . . .

Oh, my word! AJsTriscia, I actually had not noticed the voting points going to Lee Ann's song so I went back there right after I read your post. Thanks for pointing that out. I can't believe this. And here I am being accusatory of Lee Ann's fans voting dishonestly.
MY BIG APOLOGY TO ALL OF THEM. It would seems the origin of the problem is with the opry.com website itself and it sounds to me like it's either their new site was hacked or part(s) of it was/were not set up right (if any of you wish to contact the Opry about this problem, like I did, I suggest you visit the site, scroll all the way down and click on CONTACT US; either send a message through there or use the phone number given on that if you wish to call instead). I did another testing and voted 5 times. Here's how the vote numbers were added for WWY and IHYD:

First Vote: WWY - 1; IHYD - 24
Second Vote: WWY 1; IHYD - 4
Third Vote: WWY - 0; IHYD - 4
Fourth Vote: WWY - 1; IHYD -38
Fifth Vote: WWY -1; IHYD - 34

AJsTricia, as you can see, the problem is still hasn't been fixed. So, I highly recommend that everyone here stopped voting until it's fixed. . .if they ever do it. I agree with the importance that should be given these polls. The problem is many people do not understand that these polls actually affects the music artists career's success and the kind of music they're putting out there much like the charts do. And this is what has upset me about this. Believe it or not, just like with the charts, music artists and the people who work with and around them also puts some attention to these polls, even the ones made up by fans in the forums, because that's how they know what is working and going to help improve their careers and what is not by listening and paying attention to what the fans wants to see at their concerts and music videos and hear more of from the music products (albums, records, etc.) they put out there as suggested by these polls. The artists themselves may not be checking the polls sites themselves but the word gets around to them and they keep that in their minds, I'm sure, when it comes time to make a new album, put together a concert show or shoot a new music video or something. So, yes, polls should not be taken too lightly. It's another way to show and give your support to your favorite music artist and their music.

Thank you all, again, for your kind understanding. I just try and do my best.

876  General Category / Alan Music Discussion / NEW OPRY POLL GLITCH ALERT on: January 09, 2010, 02:24:32 pm
I posted this earlier under the previous NEW OPRY POLL thread. I found something terribly wrong on their polling system. . .at least for this particular one. Here's again what I said on that post, for those of you who has not or did not read it:

Thanks for alerting us, AJ#1COFAN. I just went there and did a little checking. Something is, excuse my choice of words here, screwed up, it would seems, with their voting system. Here's what I did after going to the link I posted: I clicked on WWY then voted, which of course, took me to the result page. At this point you will see 3 tabs at the top of the page, the 1st is for the this forum's site, the 2nd is for the Opry site and the 3rd is for the result page. I clicked on the 3rd tab to close the result page and voted again. Surprise! The number of votes went up again. I tried it another time and it did it again. So, AJ friends, now we know how come 'I Hope You Dance" keeps persistently staying on the top. Someone, a fan of Lee Ann, must have found out about this too and spread the word to her other fans. I don't know about you all, but if that's the kind of game they're playing, why shouldn't we be able to play the same game too? Do we or don't we? I'm leaving that to your own judgments.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

I feel really bad now for even having started that thread and for that I'm truly sorry. JINX, you are right. Alan would not want us, his fans, to join in that kind of poll voting dishonesty charade. But even though it's just a poll, it's should still have been set securely so fans can only vote once a day for the duration of the poll. the way it is now, it's only not fair to the fans of those artists, whose songs are on the list, who are trying to vote honestly, but it is also an utter disrespect to these artists themselves. I will personally email and notify the GOO webmaster/site contact and put this to their attention.

Again. . . .my apologies.

Harriet, we got some of it here too. Hopefully, it doesn't stay for long. . .temp is supposed to go up some tomorrow. Hubby will have fun driving to work tomorrow. He might stay home instead. . .at least until the ice/snow on the car's windshield melts away and the windshield clears up. Our car's heater/AC fan quit couple of weeks ago. . .for the 5th time within the last couple or so months so the the defroster will not do any good. There are other things need fixing too that will cost us hundreds of dollars if we get them done. We optioned on buying another car instead. We'll be doing some car shopping this weekend, weather permitting.

I'm up late as we were watching the BCS National Championship game. Alabama did prove themselves to be the year's best team. Congrats on your team, Melanie!

Kathy and everyone here snow bound, please stay safe and warm.

Elaine, I'm staying warm and we all are. Thanks.

Take care everyone and HUGS.

Just a quick note before I head for bed. . .been doing last minute laundry. . .my fault. :-) Belated HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010, everyone! We didn't have quite a good start of the new year but are doing better. Will post more about it another time.

Harriet, I hope the snow doesn't reach us over here. We need to grocery shop and we're doing it tomorrow (Thursday). Hubby been busy getting caught up with things at work and we've both been busy getting fully recovered from our illnesses that we seemed to be giving back and forth to each other and getting all the Christmas decorations down (been meaning to email you too. . .will do soon). It sure is freezing down here. It never gotten this cold that we can remember when we were still in Seattle. Heck, I've never worn a long johns until now! LOL! I'm dreaming of summer already. :-)

Stay, safe, warm and healthy, my AJ friends. Take care all and HUGS.

Just found this news item on musicrow.com that I thought might interest you all to read (it goes on sale tomorrow, 12-21):

http://www.musicrow.com/2009/12/country-weekly-marks-15-years/

From countryweekly.com (I'm guessing this is in commeration of their 15 years in publication) is a special online archive of all the covers that the magazine had. . .from April 12, 1994 to date. I don't know if any of the older issues can be re-ordered. I sure would like to know that too. I thought you would all be interested to see all the covers that had Alan on it [and maybe count how many times he's been on their cover?:-)] :

http://www.countryweekly.com/covers?archive=1

Enjoy and have a very Merry Christmas, everyone!

Just dropping in here to wish everyone of you[/color] A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and THE MOST BLESSED, PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

I won't be answering your posts at this time as I continue to get some rest and try to recover from the nasty cold I'm fighting right now and be well enough to travel on Monday to my in-laws' place for the holiday. Our son started this thing then hubby got it and now I got it. Son is dong fine now and hubby is still having a bit of the nasal congestion and coughing. This is a reminiscent, it seems like, of last year. A week before we were to travel to my in-laws' place hubby got the stomach flu, gave it to me and then our son followed suit. We had to postpone our trip for 3 days just to make make sure we were fully recovered before we traveled. Now, here we go again. Geeeez. . . .

Be healthy and stay healthy, everyone! HUGS!

Thank you for posting this, Harriet. It would be interesting to see how well it will work. I think allowing the digital downloads in the criteria might create a bit more of a problem there for two reasons. One is, fans of the artists pre-selected or chosen in the running for nominations at any of the categories will now jam music download sites to assure their favorite artist(s) gets nominated and possibly win the award(s) they're nominated for, which will put unfair disadvantage to the veterans, like Alan, who are still putting out great music out there, in more ways than one, the way country music these days are being geared to a much younger audience. The other is, the internet traffic jam it could and probably will create will leave a lot of fans feeling disgruntled at the new nominees selection system and will cry foul. Just my opinion. Wonder if CMA will follow suit.

Nelle, thanks for posting this. My family and I were long time loyal KMPS listeners up until we moved out of WA last year. We noticed that as years went on so did the KMPS's country music format, to much of our disappointments. The change in their website's format is also the least to be desired, in my opinion. They turned it from an easy read, easy to navigate one to a too busy and complexed one. I think they're forgetting that many of their listeners and fans are still not that adept with computers.

Thanks, again. I'm going over there now to vote.

Thanks for sharing this, Somebody. Great story and very inspiring. Alan should visit this guy at his business place, surprise him and give him a very well deserved pat on the back along with a big handshake.
